Portable Ramps

Portable wheelchair ramps are a convenient way for a wheelchair user to access any area. These are designed to enable wheelchair users to get overstep thresholds and enter vans, minivans, and SUVs without modifying the vehicles. A variety of different portable ramps are available. The type of wheelchair you use and the angle of inclination you can use should be considered when choosing a portable ramp, as well as the length of the ramp you will need to reach this angle in the area you will use it in, and the size and weight of the Portable Ramp.

Rollup Ramps: These ramps fold up into a short ramp that can be unrolled and secured with a side rail. They come in lengths of three or five feet. These ramps are extremely portable, with very low weight and compact size. Taking one or two steps with them is easy, but their use is limited to short inclines.

A single-fold wheelchair ramp or suitcase ramp is relatively light and strong. They are able to transport weights up to a certain amount and are fairly easy to move on slopes of medium height. Unlike two-fold ramps, single-fold ramps retain their full-lengths when folded, making them cumbersome with larger ramps.

Four sections of these ramps can be folded into a long, heavy-duty, portable ramp that is 12-feet long. These are the heaviest portable ramps, but they provide even heavy wheelchair users the ability to pass over steps and to enter large vehicles.

Track Ramps: Adjustable-length track ramps, or telescoping ramps, are extremely versatile. Ramps can cover steps as well as thresholds and higher incline slopes. Models are available which extend up to ten feet. This ramp serves as a track underneath the wheelchair when paired with the other ramp. Because of this, this ramp cannot be used for power scooters with three wheels or six-wheeled power wheelchairs; the wheels will not all fit on the same track. Although track ramps are extremely light, their weight capacity is lower than that of folding ramps.

A temporary ramp can be installed to provide access to a residence or a business as a temporary or semi-permanent measure. These ramps come in a variety of forms. Lightweight aluminum ramps offer easy maneuverability between thresholds and steps and are one of the most convenient products on the market. Mid-length door-width ramps are available with minimal assembly to allow entry to a place where a wheelchair user will be visiting or staying temporarily or semi-permanently, or in any situation where a permanent ramp is inconvenient. Low slope users can easily access these temporary, easily assembled ramp structures even with multisection Portable Ramps and platforms.

Temporary wheelchair ramps come in a wide variety of styles, allowing access to wheelchairs in most situations. When you order temporary ramps, you can measure or estimate the height of the obstacles you plan to pass and ask what kind and length of ramp you need. Some websites also have ramp calculators to help you figure out what kind of ramp you need.

  2. This post on portable ramps is super helpful, thanks for breaking down the factors to consider! When it comes to accessibility, having the right ramp is key. Speaking of which, I've found that modular aluminum ramps (from https://adaptaramps.com.au/access-ramp/)are not only lightweight but also sturdy – a great combo for any wheelchair user. They've been a game-changer for my friend who uses a wheelchair, providing easy access without the need for vehicle modifications.
